Explain the Platypus!

DX Fatherhood Friday BadgeMy oldest is starting to get interested odd augments that I make for creation vs. evolution. I have been reading that many schools are going to start teaching Creation next to the Theory of evolution.

As you might have guessed I an a creationist, but it was not always so. For a long time I jumped on the bandwagon of “God could have used evolution and millions of years during the creation story.”  After a while I found that the pure lack of evolution evidence does more to support creation than anything else.

I do not have an issue with teaching the theory of evolution as a theory, my issue comes in when they do not want our children to question the Theory and accept it as fact. I prefer my children to question the Ideas, examine the facts, and form an opinion for themselves. I know that my wife and my beliefs will be a strong influence on our children. Even then I welcome the questions they have about our beliefs, and often have an answer and a place to point them to for that information.

I want our children to grow up to be themselves, not mindless drones that accept information that is handed to them with out question. We, as parents, need to take an interest in what our children are learning in school. But, I think it may be more important for us, even those who home-school, to allow, even encourage, our children to think for themselves. I think the world would be a much better place for all if there were more thinkers that are truly open to looking at the facts and not the popular opinions.

Remember a bigot is not someone who disagrees with you, it is someone unwilling to listen to your side. I don’t want our children to be bigots, I want them grounded in the facts behind their beliefs.

Fatherhood Fridays are Back

DX Fatherhood Friday BadgeHello all, and welcome back to Fatherhood Fridays.  It has been almost nine months since the last FF, and I am hapIt looks as if Dad-Blogs is making a major change to http://www.dadexchange.com.  It looks like there is some exciting new things happening there.

What I will talk about in this weeks FF post is all the things that have happened since the last FF. I have not been online much myself due to all the changes that have been going on in our family.

First things first, I lost my job as a systems administrator mid December, just before Christmas. The reason I lost my jpb is up for debate, I am just accepting the fact that it was mostly my fault for giving them enough  cause to let me go.  Since then I have basiclt been a bum (SAHD) with no income at all. Those that know us will remember that we believe in at least one stay-at-home parent in the house hold.  With out going into way too much detail, we found ourselves moving back to  Alabama, with family. Where they are buying the company that they have worked for.

Teresa is now half finished with her  Masters Degree in Criminal Psychology.  The Girls are settling into their normal summers with the grand parents, and I am still unemployed.

As for my future, I have been called into the ministry, and am moving in that direction.  So my posts from a conservative christian perspective on parenting will most likely continue as they have, maybe with a bit more of a biblical slant than they had before.

As long as FF continues to run, I will post being a father of daughters as the bible directs. Trying to provide insight an parenting for those who have not been where I have. We are raising two girls ages 9 and 4 and growing. We learn as much from them as they do from us. I will do my best to share our experiences and welcome any insight that you all may have for us.

I look forward to taking part in Fatherhood Fridays again. It was great when we were doing in the past at Dad-blogs.
