PS3 Pains

Posted by Zerzix On December - 16 - 2007

This weekend I finally got a PS3. I picked up their 40GB version, and Heavenly Sword. this game is awesome. It utilizes a motion sensitive controller to pilot the projectile weapons. Now that is not what I am here to complain about.

I went to load FFXI on the system so that I could pass my PS2 on the Jana and dave so that they can use the FFXI on the PS2. when I put the disk in I got an error. What I found out is that the 40GB PS3 has no PS/PS2 compatibility. The removed the compatibility to lower the price. I find this to be insane. The Key feature I was looking for in the PS3 was that I could play all my old games and not have to stack up the old systems to do it (like you have to with the xBox and xBox 360). the only systems that have PS/PS2 compatibility are the 20 and 40 GB versions of the system. The 80GB version has limited compatibility. This means that the game may or may not work. If it does not work, if may or may not work at a later time after an update. I am just going to stick with my 60GB version.

Just a bit about the Pricing

20 GB = $299 (full PS/PS2 compatibility. no WiFi not found in many stores)

40 GB = $399 (no PS/PS2 compatibility, has WiFi)

60 GB = $499 (full PS/PS2 compatibility. has WiFi. Best deal in my opinion. I think this is no longer in production)

80 GB = $499 (limited PS/PS2 compatibility, has WiFi)

Feel free to get any system you want. But know what you are getting. This will teach me to look at the specs more before I buy something again.
