On the road update September 2008

Posted by Jacky On September - 21 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Hi,

It may seem like I am jumping around a lot in this update as it has taken me about 6 times of adding to it to actually finish it so please be patient. Here lately every time I get on the computer and get started writing I have to get going on the load I am on which means I don’t seem to finish and by the time I get back to the message I have that much more to add.

I sat at the federal Center in Ft. Worth, TX for 2 days but I never actually got sent any where by FEMA. Once they released me from FEMA I got a load picking up in Dallas, TX going to Denver, CO. They were starting to head me west for some time off. I am taking my time off this time in Colton, CA so that I can be with Mitch and Grace when the baby is born.

After that delivery I picked up a load in Henderson, CO that delivered to a construction site in Gillette, WY (it was wet, muddy and I was just glad I didn’t get my truck stuck there). They then had me deadhead (empty trailer) back down to Denver, CO to get a load that delivered in San Antonio, TX This does not seem west to me and if I have to deliver it I will be late getting to California on my requested time off date (like this is something new). Well I had to deliver this load so I was in San Antonio on Tuesday morning delivering.

I got a load out of Waco, TX that delivered in Ft. Worth, TX. From there I went to the Irving, TX yard and picked up a Hazmat load going to Carson, CA.

I delivered that load on Friday while I was there Grace Called me to let me know her water broke. At that time I was 66 miles from the Colton terminal. At that point I figured I would get to San Diego, CA just after delivery because I still had to get to the terminal, drop the trailer, go to the airport to pick up my rental car, load my stuff up, turn my truck into the shop for repair all before I could start to head down there.

Grace had started mild contractions around 11:00 am, by the time I drove into San Diego they were going to get something to eat (Grace was craving Arby’s) so I met them there. Mitch, Grace, Diane and Phil (Grace’s Parents), Clair (Grace’s sister), Casey (photographer), were all at Arby’s when I got there and from there we all went to the Birth Center in hopes that Grace was close to delivery. Grace was sent home to get some rest as she was not as close as she thought. She was able to get a couple hour of sleep before her contractions got harder so we all headed to the Birth Center. Once there she found out that she had not dilated enough for the delivery and since it had been over 24 hours since her water broke she was sent to the hospital. She was having a hard time and was in labor until that evening when

She delivered Leah Renee Fox at 7:45 pm, she is lbs. 14oz, 20 inches long, 1/2 inch of dark hair, with a tiny pretty face.

Yes, I am a Grandmother for the third time. It was great to be present for her birth. All of the above family and friends were joined by Julie (Grace’s cousin) and Andrew (Julie’s husband/ Mitch’s long time friend) so that by the time she delivered Grace and Mitch were surrounded by family and friends. I am glad that I got here when I did.

I will be here for the next few days and be right back out on the road by the weekend. That’s it for now.

Love,
Mom

Still losing the battle

As of today, I still have not heard anything good back from Bill about the Active Directory Administrator position. He asked if I was willing to work at eather of two locations that they have, of course I am. Other than that, nothing.

I got an email today for the OH position, I need to get an other phone interview with them, the project manager this time. So I am waiting to hear more about that, I think I will call again tomorrow.

Joh from TeckSys called about a position with Northrup Grummin. I am to the point with Joh, That I am thinking “What ever”. I need a job and soon.

I signed intot the reserve unit on Monday, Come to find out that I need to attened a reserve weekend to get my bonus, and I missed this months weekend. So there is another month and a half where I am going to have no income to speak of. I am still waiting on the Unemployment Request to get processed. That will atleast be some money.

I am ust taking it one day at a time now. I know it will all work out in the end, it always does. I think more people would do a lot better in life if they did not panick everytime something did not go the way they think it should.

I have applied to more jobs, some in CA, OR and AZ. we will see if any of thoses go anywhere. Untill then….

I still need ot contact Devry to see what I need to do to get these holds removed so that I can start that back up. That way I have somthign to do and get that GI Bill money. That will help out a lot, with the finances as well as my sanity.

I just hope things work out soon, for Teresa and the girls sake.

Really getting Frustrated

Well, One of the Jobs I applied for yesterday called me as soon as i got back to the house. They wanted a few changes to the resume, more enfisis on the Active Directory. So I did and sent it back to them.

I wasted all day today waiting for a call from them. I finaly get it at 4pm, only to heat that the company thinks I dont have enough hands on knolage of the system. They don’t want to “Wast their time” on an interview unless they think you are the one they want to hire.

I am thinking they must be retarded, how does seting up an Active Directory network from the ground up in Baghdad, Iraq equal ” not enough hands-on”. Some time stupid people make me mad.

All I think they looked at was my last position as an Instructor. I had to tell them, I instructed in a Hands-On environment. That is the way the Military does things. who cares if you can pass a book test, We need you to beable to do the work ont tell us how is should be done.

Well, I sent them a new copy of my resume with as much expantion on what is did as I can fit in. The resume is now pushong four and a half pages. If i was them I would not want to read the resume and toss it for that. I want something that is straight and to the point. We can always find out more in an interview. Atleast I got that from Unisys.

I am really getting tierd of this job hunting, I apply to 5 – 10 jobs each time I come up here, and get a call back maybe every other week. Then the call backs go nowhere. This is bull shit, maybe I should just get a job at TacoBell and go back to school full time. But then what would Teresa and the girls do, We can’t afford a place to stay on that kind of money. But atleast then I we would be elagable for food stamps and welfair.

Once my bonus comes in, I have about a month or so before I have rto have a job. maybe this one will pan out in the end, But I am not getting my hopes up about it anymore.

It Driving me insane

Well, Jon called me back about an interview with Unisys yesterday. I went up there and did what I could. I answered all their questions as best I could. But, it looks like I am still not a match for the position. I wish they would eather hire me or quit calling.

To day I am going intot the Unemployment office to sign up there. That sould help some with the job hunting. And I am still applying for new jobs atleast every other day. I hit 5 new ones today. One in AL and AZ and three in OR. I am really starting to spead out the search. I am qualified for the jobs, I just thing they drop me becuse I am not living in the location of the job currently.

Well, I did make a few dollars doing some side work on a few of the neighbors computers. but nothign like I would need to cover my bills. If i still have nothing in the next few weeks, I might just start advertising my services and see if I can get a start for my own bussiness.

One day this will all work out, I just hope it is sooner than later

On the road update Setptember 2008

Hi,

Well I am sitting at the Federal Center in Ft. Worth, TX waiting to be loaded. Thought I would go ahead and send an update on where I am at and what I am doing.

You will all be glad to know that I got out of Florida before the storm came in. They put me on a load that picked up in Alachua, FL going to Atlanta, GA.

From there I picked up a load located in East Point, GA that delivered to Salisbury, NC. After that I got a load out of Charlotte, NC delivering in Belvidere, IL.

On Sunday I picked up a load in Elwood, IL going to Cincinnati, OH. After delivering that load I then picked up a load in Hebron, KY that I took to the yard in Irving, TX and dropped there.

Well that puts me right where they need drivers for FEMA. So here I am sitting and waiting to be loaded so that I can get down there where the storm is due to hit come Friday.

Well hopefully I won’t be sitting here too long. That is all I have going on for now. I will write later.

Love,
Mom

Job hunnting blues

Posted by Zerzix On September - 2 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Well, I have been actively looking for a job for 2 months now, and don’t have one yet.

Before I was getting out of the army, I had people knocking down my door trying to get me to work for them. Now that I can, it looks like all the jobs have dried up, or they want someone else to fill them.

So far I have been sent to the hiring manager at five locations and not gotten a call back from them yet. Most wrote me off before even interviewing me. At one location I did not answer the prescreening questions they way they wanted.

Right now I am waiting on a call back from a Unix System Administrator position in Alabama. The recruiter is saying the same thing they always do, “You look like a great match for this position, All we got to do is get you an interview.” NO SHIT! REALLY? All I need is to get into the interview and I am sure win for the position. But, I have yet to make it to the interview part yet.

I have sent in about ten revisions of my resume to these guys and got in touch with all my references to be sure they were still there. But, I am to the point that I wont get my hopes up yet.

Tomorrow there is a job expo in Montgomery. I am going to head up there and see if there is anything out there forms me. I log onto the job sites at least every other day to look at the new postings. The jobs are out there, but so are the “Better Suited” people. I have yet to get that I was out placed by a better Qualified person. Some of them were just because I was not local to the position.

All the job searching is starting to get to me. I want to get a job just so I have something to do besides play video games and water the animals. I think I am starting to go stir crazy in the tight quarters where we are staying. I am no that good working around a lot of people all the time. There are just too many there for me. I want to get back to just Teresa, the kids and me. I don’t even care if it is a small apartment. just so there are not nine people around all the time
