On the road update September 2008
Hi,
It may seem like I am jumping around a lot in this update as it has taken me about 6 times of adding to it to actually finish it so please be patient. Here lately every time I get on the computer and get started writing I have to get going on the load I am on which means I don’t seem to finish and by the time I get back to the message I have that much more to add.
I sat at the federal Center in Ft. Worth, TX for 2 days but I never actually got sent any where by FEMA. Once they released me from FEMA I got a load picking up in Dallas, TX going to Denver, CO. They were starting to head me west for some time off. I am taking my time off this time in Colton, CA so that I can be with Mitch and Grace when the baby is born.
After that delivery I picked up a load in Henderson, CO that delivered to a construction site in Gillette, WY (it was wet, muddy and I was just glad I didn’t get my truck stuck there). They then had me deadhead (empty trailer) back down to Denver, CO to get a load that delivered in San Antonio, TX This does not seem west to me and if I have to deliver it I will be late getting to California on my requested time off date (like this is something new). Well I had to deliver this load so I was in San Antonio on Tuesday morning delivering.
I got a load out of Waco, TX that delivered in Ft. Worth, TX. From there I went to the Irving, TX yard and picked up a Hazmat load going to Carson, CA.
I delivered that load on Friday while I was there Grace Called me to let me know her water broke. At that time I was 66 miles from the Colton terminal. At that point I figured I would get to San Diego, CA just after delivery because I still had to get to the terminal, drop the trailer, go to the airport to pick up my rental car, load my stuff up, turn my truck into the shop for repair all before I could start to head down there.
Grace had started mild contractions around 11:00 am, by the time I drove into San Diego they were going to get something to eat (Grace was craving Arby’s) so I met them there. Mitch, Grace, Diane and Phil (Grace’s Parents), Clair (Grace’s sister), Casey (photographer), were all at Arby’s when I got there and from there we all went to the Birth Center in hopes that Grace was close to delivery. Grace was sent home to get some rest as she was not as close as she thought. She was able to get a couple hour of sleep before her contractions got harder so we all headed to the Birth Center. Once there she found out that she had not dilated enough for the delivery and since it had been over 24 hours since her water broke she was sent to the hospital. She was having a hard time and was in labor until that evening when
She delivered Leah Renee Fox at 7:45 pm, she is lbs. 14oz, 20 inches long, 1/2 inch of dark hair, with a tiny pretty face.
Yes, I am a Grandmother for the third time. It was great to be present for her birth. All of the above family and friends were joined by Julie (Grace’s cousin) and Andrew (Julie’s husband/ Mitch’s long time friend) so that by the time she delivered Grace and Mitch were surrounded by family and friends. I am glad that I got here when I did.
I will be here for the next few days and be right back out on the road by the weekend. That’s it for now.
Love,
Mom
