Three weeks into Ohio

Posted by Zerzix On October - 18 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Well, it is now the end of my third week here in Columbus. I am still waiting to get cleared to go to the work site. It was not thaty bad this week. We were in training for the AmberPoint SOA manager. durring the class, I learned alot about what was going on at the site. Also, after the class wor over friday, My supervisor, who was in the class woth me, said that we needed to have a meeting about plannign on a major change to the overall system to make use of features, that are not being used, now that will make the system more effective than it s now.

I turned in my fourth review copy of my SF-86, I hopw this will be the last one. This time all it had to do was make a few grammer and typo fixes. One I get the OK to submit it I will be one step closer to getting my clearance upgraded. Once I get my Interum clearance I will be able to go to the site and start working.

Today the Directv guys came out to install my DirecTV system, and they brought out the wrong Dish. I ordered the HD upgrade dish, and they brought the standard one. The Tech that was here ot install it to me that it would be another $85 for the HD dish. I called up DirecTV and got that fixed. They installed the standard dish so that I would have service, and next weekend I will be getting the HD dish installed. So now I have more than 10 channles to watch. And they game me Stars and HBO for free for the mixup. Not bod in my book.

I am going in tomorrow to find out about one of the local reserve units, they have an oppening for me. Even if they don’t take me in I might beable to atleast drill with them to fill my drill time. I am still waiting for the Drill pay for Montgumery., and my bonus. I hope that will pull throught by the end of the month. I am also still waiting for the VA to finish my disability claim, that will be extra money each month.

Now , I am waiting to get my PS3 back from being fixed, and turning the Blockbuster back on so that I can get movies. The only thing is that the Blockbuster service we have on longer exists. I wont beable to get as many in-store exchanges as we have been. But it is not like I will be getting a lot of movies anyway.

Soon, I should ve getting cought up on all my bills. then I need to start furnishing this appartment, or get my stuff moved up here. I might go with moving my stuff. I want to get somthing other than a blowup matteress to sleep on.

Even with all that is going on here, I feel like I have so much extra time on my hands. I am not sure what I am going to do with all this time. we will see. Maybe I will getup Kelloggskorner.com to do something with. Or I might start working my oDesk.com account to get alittle more income and practice with Unix and programming.

So much to do and so little money to do it with.

On the road update October 2008

Posted by Jacky On October - 14 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Hi,

Yes I am still out here on the road. I am due to be home on the 24th. We will see how that goes. Even though right now it looks pretty good as I am in Goodyear, AZ. I am waiting to deliver this load tonight at 11pm.

I was in Fayetteville, NC last time I wrote and from there I went to Harrison , NC to pick up a load that went to Allentown, PA after delivery there I went on up to Tunkhannock, PA to get a load that I delivered in South Boston, VA.

My next load picked up in Chesapeake, VA and delivered in Madison, AL. The load I am on right now I picked up the next morning in Huntsville, AL. On my way through Oklahoma City, OK I stopped at the terminal to get fuel and while I was there the shop did a DOT inspection on the trailer I had.

When I went to pull my trailer out of the work bay the air compresure went out on my truck so my breaks locked up and I couldn’t go anywhere. Since I was blocking one of the repair bays they had to get the truck fixed right then. I was really lucky that it went out when it did if I had been out on the road that could have been really dangerous. As it was it took them the rest of the day to get all the repairs made. It seemed as if as soon as they repaired one thing they found something else wrong. They found a couple of small exhaust leaks and had to replace the seals on the turbo. My truck and trailer were in the shop for about 13 hours. That was on Sunday I drove all day yesterday and about 7 hours today.

I am scheduled to pick up a load tomorrow in Tolison, AZ to take up to Corinne, UT for delivery on Friday. They do seem to be keeping me out west which is a good sign to getting home on time.

Well that is all I have been up to. I will drop you all a line later. Was glad to hear from some of you this last week or so. I will write later.

Love,
Mom

Falling into place

Posted by Zerzix On October - 10 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Ok, We are nearing the end of my second week here in Columbus, and thiings are starting to fall ingot place. I got an appartment, it is in a nice quiet location. I got more appartment than I needed for myself, But when Teresa and the girls get out here, or even come to visit, I will have room for them.

I got me a small TV , 19″, only to watch my PS3 stop playing movies durring one. I will be sending it off to get fixed. I will also look at getting the DirecTV turned back on out here. I will have to get a ew receiver, but the move in will be free. I will be looking into getting more furnaure as time goes ..ing with the living areas of the appartment. I will also neet to get some pots and pans for the kitchen, but I want to wait untill Teresa is out here to help pick them out. It is her kitchen after all, I want her to have what she wants.

As you may have read in the last “Tails From the Road” my mother was here last week. We had dinner togethere for the nights she was here. I am still learnign where everything is, so we got lost a few times. Once I even stopped too fast on a hil and the Carmaro Stalled on me. Getting the gass back into the line took a while. Luckaly a few people walking home from the bar helped us push it out of the road. Once it was on level groud it started right up. I like that car. One day I will work all the issues out of it.

We talked about a lot of stuff over dinner, Mom talked about trucking stuff, and things that were happening in the extended family. I am going to pray for them all. From the sounds of it Mitch and his family might be looking at moving, They realized they cant afford to live in Cali and support a child. Mom also talked about somthing she would like to do. She has been taking a lot of pictures while she is out on the road. She has a lot of goot photos. She is thinking about framing up some prints to sell in the markets and swapmeets. I think she could make a killing doing that. If that works out for her, she would like to travel around taking pictures at her leasure. I think she could do it. I was telling her that she could sell the pringts over the internet. I could weven set up a web site to do it. I hope that workes out for her when she tries it. be looking out for the website when she does.

As for the new job, there is not much to say yet. I am still waiting to get cleared to go to the job site. I have been going into the office each day and reading about the stuff that we are using in the project. I will be working with Solaris 10 systems running Aqualogic and Weblogic as well as a few other systems. I think next week they have me sloted for a class (or some sort ot training) on the AmberPoint system. It is one of the applicatios that we will be using to do our jobs. Once I get started working at the site, I will be on the third shift. That will give me a lot of time to spend with my family. I will be going to work when they are all asleep and coming home when they are heading out to school. I think it will like this once I really get started. I have meet a few of the people I will be working with, many of them are Christians, which is a good thing, and so far they all seam like nice people.

I am not sure what I am going to do this weekend. All week I have been reading the new Inheritance book for the past two weeks. I think I will be done with it early this weekend. Once I am done with that I have another book that should be showing up soon, but it is a study guid for the Sun Certified System Administrator: Solaris 10, so it wont have a good plot. to help me out with working through the study guid and working with the Unix system again, I have loaded a VPC with Solaris 10. I am going to see if i can load Aqualogic on it so I can get a feel for what I will really be working with. Other than that, all i really have to do is play video game. I have started FFXI back up, but I will only be playing a few hours a week. I have beat most of my other video game, so I will have to look for more in the GameStop.

So with my exciting life falling into palce fro the looks of it, I look farwar to seeing what is coming next. Just remember, It is all fun and games until someone get arrested.

I will talk to you all again some day, until then fave fun.

On the road update October 2008

Posted by Jacky On October - 6 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Hi,

This is the first chance I have had to get online since I left Mitch and Grace’s. I am in Fayetteville, NC I had dinner with my sister-in-law Russett and nephew Austin last night. They live here in Fayetteville. The company hasn’t assigned me to a load yet so I have a little time.

When I got back on the truck after leaving Mitch’s, there in Colton, CA I picked up a load in Carson, CA took it to Otay Mesa, CA where it will then go into Mexico. I picked up a load in Otay Mesa, CA coming out of Mexico and took it to the rail yard in San Bernadino, CA. I then went back to the yard in Colton, CA and picked up a load going to Salt Lake City, UT.

Once I delivered there I picked up my next load just a couple of blocks from away. While in Salt Lake City my friend Mike (another driver with US Xpress) was passing through on his way to California. We were able to stop and have dinner together before we both had to take off in opposite directions as my load was heading to Dayton, TX (Houston area).

I picked up a load in Houston, TX that I delivered in Delaware, OH. When I delivered that load I was down to 1 hour of drive time available and I only had 4 hours for the next day, so the company had me sit in Columbus, OH at the yard there for a 34 hour restart. While I was in Columbus I was able to see my son Adam as he had just started a new job there in Columbus. We got to spend some time together so my time there went quickly.

I got into Columbus on Thursday and that following Saturday morning I headed to Zanesville, OH to pick up a load that I delivered to Mechanicsburg, PA and picked up a load at the same place I delivered to. I then brought that load down here to Hope Mills, NC. That load I delivered last night. While I have been writing this I have been assigned my next load that picks up in Henderson, NC going to Breingsville, PA.

That’s what I have going on. Looks like I need to act like I work. I will write later. I hope you are all doing well, drop me a line every once in a while to let me know how your doing.

Love,
Mom
