What is your biggest concern about healthcare reform?
America’s Talking 1 P.M. Question
Here was my answer:
I am a US Military Vet and Selected Reservist, so this will not affect me much as I have VA and Tricare through DoD. But what I fear is for the future of my children. Here is only one problem I see with health care today, many uninsured (some by choice and some not) are seeking to have health insurance. Health Insurance is not meant to be a way to pay for stupid little things you can treat at home (like a runny nose or a headache), it is meant to be there for the emergencies. You don’t have car insurance to pay for standard maintenance and you don’t expect them to, so why should you expect Health Insurance to cover basic care that can be done at home when you chose to go to the hospital to have it done? All Universal health insurance is going to do is make emergency rooms more crowded with people that don’t need to be there. Whit more people going to the hospital, care quality is going to go down, and the patient is going to become a number to be dealt with rather than a person. I have see thing in Military care facilities, where young soldiers will go to the emergency room for minor thing just because they don’t have to pay for it, making the wait longer for those that truly need care.
On top of that, the methods they are putting forth to pay for this universal health care is not in the best interest of the people or economy. Forcing small companies to provide insurance to all employees will make these companies have to choose between lower revenue (and going out of business) or laying off workers to cover the expenses. Then adding a tax to health benefits that companies have now is just foolish. Not only am I paying my part of the insurance, I am now getting taxed for having insurance, so that some one how is not paying for insurance can get it. Where is the benefit for me to have insurance? Also, taxing the rich to pay for the poor is just wrong. Many rich people make as much as they do now through hard work earlier in life. Then these rich people are also the ones the own companies. If they have to pay more taxed just because they make more, they will have to find a way to keep themselves and their companies living and working the way they want. This may cause more layoffs for the rich to maintain their lifestyle.
As things are now, I see no real benefit for me or a vast majority of Americas with this proposed health care reform.
