Fatherhood and God
[fatherhood_fridays]
I want to bring my children up in a Christian home as I was. I feel that the morals and values that I was taught growing up have had a great impact on how I am today. I know that over the years I have back-slide form time to time. I also know that no matter how much I impress these things on my children they will have to learn how to deal with them in their own was as well.
It is Gods commandment that we teach our children about the lord (Deuteronomy 6:4-7). According to this verse we should teach our children of the lords commandments all through the day when we are with them. The chapter goes on to say we should have the commandments memorized and written within our house and around our doorways. Some may say that is a bit much in this day and age, but the Ten Commandments is engraved on the doors to the Supreme Court. These are the base founding laws of our nation. The laws we follow today in this nation come from those given to us by God. If we teach our children these basic commandments, all other laws and rules will fall into place.
Proverbs 22:6 says they will return to the values you teach them when they are older. If you do not raise your children to hold the Christian values they will return the values that they are taught. If we do not teach them the values we want them to live by when we are not there it is our fault when they live by the values they learn from others. Be proactive; teach you good moral values when they are young.
Ephesians 6:4 tells us as parents to be overbearing on our children. Don’t be over bearing on them and drive them mad with rule. Teach them the ways of the lord and all else will follow in that line. Take the time to align the rules and laws of you home with those of the bible. Don’t make over bearing rules that will drive your children away. Reflect back to the ways of the Lord, and the Ten Commandments when you discipline them. The interpretation of these commandments can resolve almost any issue.
The bible tells us as Fathers it is our duty to teach our children about the Lord and bring them up on his path. Within Judeo-Christian home we will find good moral values and raise generations that will live by good laws and be able to govern themselves, the way our country was founded. Bring the Christian roots back into the American home, teach your children about the Lord, and raise this nation’s next generation in the ways of our founding fathers and the dominant religion of this nation.
This is what our nation is lacking, and why we are on a slippery slop from the greatness that used to be the hopes and dreams of people the world over. We as parents have shirked our duty in teaching our children right from wrong. We need to stop passing the blame on society, and take responsibility for raising our children.

Your children are lucky to have a dad that will teach them these things.

Sorry, but the reason society is in the toilet has nothing to do with a lack of Christianity. And to boot, most of our founding fathers were Deists and in Ben Franklin’s case, quite possibly an atheist.
I don’t believe in God yet I will teach my son right from wrong, I will instill in him moral values and I will do it all without stepping foot in a church. You don’t need to be Christian to be a good person and you don’t need religion to raise your kid successfully. You want to take that route and that’s cool, to each his own. But to complain about the ills of society and say it’s because everyone isn’t the same religion as you is pretty off-base.

I work hard at that not exasperating your kids bit…. far too easy to do.
@daddyfiles – I don’t think you can discount Christianity completely. I do think that if Christianity (and not the hey, we’re all Christians, kum by ya type of deal) were more pervasive people would tend to be more ‘moral’ whatever that means. But I do agree that being Christian isn’t a requirement for being a good person.

I am doing my part by instilling faith and morals in my children. I agree that there is correlation between less people practicing there professed faiths and the decline in our society’s moral value base.

I’m a Christian, too. Where many of us have gone wrong (no, let’s personalize it — where *I* have often gone wrong) is in blowing off the writings that define our faith. I’m striving to be more ‘fundamentalist’ in that respect. Thanks for the encouragement.

I am an advocate for “believe what you wantâ€, but it does make me mad when people speak with out knowing what they are talking about. Our Founding Fathers were Deists in the fact that they did not want the government to tell them what religion they must believe. As for basic religious beliefs they were for the most part Protestant Christians. They Left so that they would note forced to practice as Catholics. Read some history books they were made before the bible was taken out of the schools in this country.
As for being good without being a Christian, this may be true. It is my personal believe that works do no save you. I am a Christian and I believe in an after life that is controlled by God. What you believe in is up to you. I will point out that Jeffry Dahmer, after converting to Christianity, said he would have lived a much different life if he was raise the way I said I wish to raise my children, in Christ.
Believe what you want, but I think that our country needs to get back to it Moral Christian Root. And I will stand by my beliefes.
