Our Founding Fathers were Deists in the fact that they did not want the government to tell them what religion they must believe. As for basic religious beliefs they were for the most part Protestant Christians. They Left so that they would note forced to practice as Catholics. Read some history books they were made before the bible was taken out of the schools in this country. As for being good without being a Christian, this may be true. It is my personal believe that works do no save you. I am a Christian and I believe in an after life that is controlled by God. What you believe in is up to you. I will point out that Jeffry Dahmer, after converting to Christianity, said he would have lived a much different life if he was raise the way I said I wish to raise my children, in Christ.Believe what you want, but I think that our country needs to get back to it Moral Christian Root. And I will stand by my beliefes.

I am an advocate for “believe what you want”, but it does make me mad when people speak with out knowing what they are talking about. Where many of us have gone wrong (no, let's personalize it -- where *I* have often gone wrong) is in blowing off the writings that define our faith. I'm striving to be more 'fundamentalist' in that respect. Thanks for the encouragement.

I do think that if Christianity (and not the hey, we're all Christians, kum by ya type of deal) were more pervasive people would tend to be more 'moral' whatever that means. But I do agree that being Christian isn't a requirement for being a good person.

And to boot, most of our founding fathers were Deists and in Ben Franklin's case, quite possibly an atheist.I don't believe in God yet I will teach my son right from wrong, I will instill in him moral values and I will do it all without stepping foot in a church. You don't need to be Christian to be a good person and you don't need religion to raise your kid successfully. You want to take that route and that's cool, to each his own. But to complain about the ills of society and say it's because everyone isn't the same religion as you is pretty off-base.
