(Not So) Happy New Year
The Holidays started out fine this year. We just moved into our new townhouse just before Thanks Giving. Things rolled smoothly (as smoothly as things roll in our lives) into the Christmas Vacation for Angel, and the family went off to Alabama for the celebration and the New Year. I worked for 6 hours on the holiday, not that I really had anything better to do at the house. The rest of that weekend went on with out a hiccup; I sat around watching movies and playing video games.
It wasn’t until this past Monday morning that thing went south. It snowed the night before, so it was nice and cold. I started the truck to let it warm up for 10 minutes or so, nothing out of the ordinary. When I got out there it was nice and toasty in the cab, I scraped what Ice and snow was left off the windshield and got set to take off for work. The Dodge rolled smoothly out of the driveway, but once out It would not go into gear to move forward. Knowing there was nothing wrong when I pulled it into the driveway on Friday, I though I must be stuck on some ice. My neighbor was nice enough to help me push it back a bit to see if I could get some traction, only to find out that the wheals were not spinning at all.
Knowing that something was wrong at this point, I started check the usual things, what I think of as usually when a car does not go into gear anyway. I checked the Linkage cables, they seamed fine. I rolled it through the gears a few times just to get things moving, to no avail. When I checked the transmission fluid levels is when I noticed the first oddity, the level had not dropped like it should when the engine was running, I know it was not over filled because I have checked it before and have never had to add any to it.
Hoping it was just something needed to warm up a bit, I let it run for a while. That didn’t help, and the truck is not blocking traffic, not that I live on a highly uses road or anything, so I did what I could to get it back into the driveway. Needless to say I missed work that day, thank God for vacation hours. Tuesday I called Cottman Transmission, to have it looked at. They were not able to get to it until Wednesday and it won’t be able to be fixed until after the New Year. This is great and wonderful considering that bus fair is going up on the first.
To top all this off, I won’t have the truck to pick up my family form Alabama to get them back here in time for the start of school. The only consultation I have is that Cottman does have a payment plan system to help out with the cost of fixing the transmission. So we will not be totally broke for the duration of this pay period.
This is just such a great way to start off the New Year. I hope all of you are having a much better time that I am.
Happy New Year to you, may this year be better than the last.
